How to Communicate Clearly

Being able to communicate clearly not only allows for a clear and concise way of getting your information across, but it aids in social encounters. Communication is key in everyday life and scenarios. Not knowing how to communicate clearly, therefore, can lead to awkward and not-ideal situations.

First, before you even say anything, think about what you are going to say and how you will approach saying it. This is extremely important because it will prevent the multiple “um’s” or “like’s” that you normally would say unprepared. In addition, you need to choose the right time and situation to say what you want to get across. Choosing the correct time and place for a serious conversation also can allow you to feel more comfortable in talking to somebody. Sometimes it is those trivial factors that make or break a conversation.

Besides talking, listening is a key component to trying to communicate with another person. As much as your message is important, listening to the other person's views and opinions can help you better understand the situation and communicate in a manner where both sides are seen. Providing accurate feedback and making sure your side and arguments are made is also crucial to a clear conversation. There are also components that can be stopping you from communicating clearly. Emotions, especially stress, can cloud your vision and allow you to spur away from the planned message of the conversation.

It can lead to future conflicts and different results from the conversation than was previously intended. In addition, a lack of focus and attentiveness can cause not only a bad look for yourself, but it restricts you from being engaged and active in the conversation. Checking your phone constantly, daydreaming, or looking around aimlessly can result in missing key components of a conversation. In addition, knowing yourself and how you communicate best will be extremely beneficial in communicating clearly.

Some people communicate more effectively on text or call, but others may find that an in-person conversation allows for more transparency. Choosing the correct time and place for a serious conversation also can allow you to feel more comfortable in talking to somebody.

Also, being concise is just as important as any other factors of a conversation state before. It leads to a straight-forward conversation and allows for the other person to know exactly how to answer. Being concise is a prominent cause for being clear in a conversation.

In conclusion, communicating clearly consists of multiple different aspects of a person and a conversation. Finding out the most comfortable way for you and approaching conversations being prepared are by far the most important components. Communicating clearly is not done in a day, it takes time and practice, especially when it is something unfamiliar.
