Positive thinking is a crucial step to make problems seem more manageable. Although it won’t make all of your problems disappear, it will help you approach hardships with bravery.
You may be wondering, what is the purpose of life? How can I be happy? Why do I have to find a purpose in life to be happy? In actuality, you don’t need to find and have a purpose. Not everyone chooses to find a purpose in life because life is life. Everyday activities can fill your life with happiness and trying to find a purpose in life will never make you happy. Constantly trying to find that missing link in your life will deter you from being happy. Focusing on little things that you take for granted but bring you happiness is the key to being happy in life. Having a purpose or a passion in your life can help you deal with stress, be happier, and possibly even live longer. But this may not be for everyone. People believe that having a purpose in life can lead to higher happiness. But is purpose enough to make you happy? My answer would be it depends on individual to individual.
Spending time with others, doing self-care, acts of kindness, and being content with oneself can all lead to happiness. We can achieve this by reducing negative/pessimistic self-talk. Positive thinking and having an optimistic mind can help lower the risk of developing several major causes of death.
How to have positive thoughts?
Focus on the good things
Focus on good things, no matter how small or insignificant they seem. e.g. If plans at an event are canceled and instead of feeling down, look forward to spending time to catch up on a hobby or show.
Have gratitude
Being grateful and thanking others can not only improve self-esteem but also foster mindfulness. Think of people, moments, or things that bring you some kind of comfort or happiness, and try to express your gratitude at least once a day. • Welcome humor Give yourself permission to smile, laugh, and enjoy time with others. Look past the bitterness and rancorous self.
Practice positive self-talk
We are our worst critics, let’s focus on how we can improve instead of constantly criticizing our mistakes. Try to get rid of that pessimistic self-talk and focus and respond to those negative thoughts with positive ones. e.g. “I failed terribly, but I will try again in a different way”.
Spend time with positive people
Surround yourself with people who will lift your spirits and help you see the bright side. Both negativity and positivity tend to be contagious.
Identify and eliminate areas of negative thinking
What areas do you tend to be most negative in? If you’re unsure, try asking a friend or someone you always spend time with. You could be most negative when driving, at school, or at work. Tackling each area one at a time can help you have a more positive mindset.
