Holding Tampons

In Rio de Janeiro, there are low-income neighborhoods located on the outskirts of bigger cities, also known as favelas. Unfortunately, many of the girls who live in such favelas do not get proper access to menstrual or sexual education. Menstrual health and awareness is imperative for girls all around the world, and without it, it can limit girls from being able to reach their full potential. This is why IcLucy tackles this issue with straightforward and informative resources that open the dialogue and destigmatize the natural part of a girl's life.

Meet the Chapter Leader: Brazil

My name is Isabelle Condor, and I am from Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. I have a lot of passions, but I am currently passionate about poetry and board games, especially RPGs. As someone who grew up in a dangerous neighborhood in Rio de Janeiro, one of the significant reasons I have joined the project is to help and positively impact more high school students with a similar background. I want to help them not only with the topics of mental health but also with common issues that affect many people in Brazil, such as menstrual poverty.

Meet the Chapter Leader: ZAmbia

My name is Darya Sanai, and I am currently living in Lusaka, Zambia. My family has always emphasized education, and I have been extremely lucky to have had the opportunity to attend school and be given the resources I need to learn. However, many children don’t have the same luxury. Over 30% of adolescent girls in Zambia become pregnant by the age of 18, resulting in many teenage girls dropping out of school. By being apart of IcLucy, I hope to spread awareness about this important issue and support Zambian teenagers to access the resources the need to remain in school.
